Shanghai to Tenerіfe

If you’re heading to Tenerife this year, don’t leave home without checking out some of the fantastic experiences and first-rate attractions you could enjoy on this sun-baked Canary Island.

For starters, there’s the beach. Many holidaymakers and those seeking cheap Tenerife holidays typically head for the south coast, where you’ll find the resorts of Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. Here, there are scores of sandy beaches hugging the southern coastline, many of which feature traditional black volcanic sands, while others are pebbly affairs with lovely rocky coves and quiet sheltered spots. Some, such as the main beach at Playa de las Americas, are made up of shimmering golden sand that has been shipped in from the Sahara, so you can enjoy a more Med-style beach experience.

Away from the sands, another popular spot is the resort of Puerto de la Cruz in the north of the island. This sprawling resort is just a few hours’ drive away from the bustling beaches of the south, but it’s worlds away by comparison. Expect steep craggy cliffs, crashing Atlantic surf and dramatic rocky coastlines that makes for a more authentic Tenerife experience. From here, you can head to the buzzing capital of Santa Cruz for a day of shopping and sightseeing, or drive along the northern shores to experience the dramatic seascapes of this stunning coastal region.

If you’ve got the kids in tow, try the popular animal centre, Loro Parque, close to Puerto de la Cruz, or opt for the vast Siam Park near Costa Adeje – it’s a huge water park with enough going on to keep the kids entertained for a month.

Whatever Tenerife experience you fancy, from quiet retreats to cheap Tenerife holidays in the sun, you’ll find a wide range of holidays through large-scale tour operators like Thomas Cook. Travel with a tour operators and they’ll be able to advise on all sorts of different day trips and experiences too – perfect for helping you get to know the real side of Tenerife.
